Bike Touring Turkey: Episode 1 | The adventure begins

After a fair bit of deliberation, my partner, Michael, and I decided on the destination of our next bike tour… Turkey. To be honest, as surprising as it seems to me now, bike touring Turkey wasn’t high on either of our lists beforehand.

But as we started to think of what we wanted from our next adventure… to be in the mountains, to feel pretty remote while still having access to some resources, to be somewhere quite different than anywhere we’d been before… Turkey soon climbed to the forefront.

With the pandemic having kept our cycling adventures local for the last while, this was my first international bike tour in over 2 years, and Michael’s first one ever!

Before we knew it our departure day had arrived and it was time to hop on a plane to Kayseri, Turkey. Check out all the drama and excitement of the first few days flying with bicycles, fixing a mechanical issue, and encountering a major challenge on our first ride. You’ll find it all in THIS VIDEO:

Coming up in this Bike Touring Turkey video series we explore the beauty of the Cappadocia region, fight our way through the challenges of aggressive shepherd dogs and steep, rugged mountain terrain, and experience the incredible hospitality from the kind people we meet along the way.
